Though I've owned this hard drive for only 2 months and cannot vouch for its long term performance, I like it very much. There was no back up software included in this purchase but it didn't matter. It is very easy to use and I didn't find the necessity to use both the USB plugs to power it. It is a very compact, sleek and easy to use hard drive. I will include the updates on its performance after few months to comment on its durability.Customer Review: Looks great, works without a glitch.

I've purchased a 500GB model. Had it for about two months now, using it daily. It looks great, works very quietly, the speed is perfectly sufficient. Gets barely warm, that's it. All there is to it that it's a Hitachi 2.5" hard drive in an external enclosure with a USB interface. And Hitachi drives are in probably about half of all laptops and netbooks. Don't drop it too often, don't sleep on it and it should last you a long time.Customer Review: Strongly Recommended

I really like this external hard drive. It provides plenty of space for my music collection and photos as well as other important data. It does have a very, very short USB cable which bothers me a little since I wanted to place the hard drive on top of my desk, but I quickly got used to it. Very small compact, size and nice overall. I am very happy with my purchase!

I've used a few different brands of hard drives and I feel best about SimpleTech products. I have had 2 other brands of drives fail prematurely but have never had a SimpleTech drive fail and I own 5.
