Don't be deceived by the fancy Italian styling of this portable drive.....it's total trash. Despite the claims on the specifications, it doesn't communicate with Windows Vista machines....rendering the drive unusable. In addition, SimpleTech technical support is completely and utterly unresponsive....whether by phone or email....and has been for a long time.
I returned mine....and bought a Western Digital Passport Elite 400GB....and oh, what a gem! Works perfect, fast data transfer rate, beautiful styling....and even comes with it's own classy storage pouch right in the box. No set-up required....just plug, play and use.
Bottom line: save yourself a lot of potential problems and avoid the SimpleTech products. They are cheap products in fancy packages.

I bought the hard drive because it was on sale. I backed up my home movies the first night and then the second night hooked it up to back up some more files. The USB port on the machine snapped off completely dislocating it from the machine. I didn't even have it for 2 days! I contacted the company who wrote back "We are baffled by this occurance....Please bring it back to the store you bought it from to retrieve the files." Wow! What great customer support! Go back and pay a store to retrieve my files! Great work Simpletech! Now I had to pay a store TWICE what I payed for the machine just to get my files back! DO NOT BUY!!! A PIECE OF (well, you know)! I've had a terrible experience with two of these that I bought at the same time. They function ok when I browse photo files. They also function ok when I download photo files onto them. But they can't seem to transfer the same files to another hard drive or burn them to a DVD with any reasonable speed. File transfers or DVD burns that should take a few minutes take many, many hours (so I have to cancel them). I've had many external drives but never experienced anything even close to the slowness of these Espressos. I don't know what's wrong with them.Customer Review: doesn't work

got one that, right out of box, did not have any of the backup software on it; called Simpletech; they walked through a crazy-long process that essentially means i'd have to do multiple added steps for every computer i want to backup to this drive. Called them again, they said nothing they can do-- it's defective and that's that (they said factory forgot to install the software). Drove back to store, exchanged it for another-- has exactly the same problem. Do not, do not, do not buy this drive.Customer Review: WORST PURCHASE EVER

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! My Simpletech mini external hard drive lasted less than ONE YEAR before it died. After my computer died, I was thanking my lucky stars that I put all of my data on the Simpletech mini beforehand. Well, after one use -- ONE USE -- the hard drive just died on me. I couldn't retrieve my data and after calling Simpletech they said they couldn't retrieve the data either b/c it's not what their warranty guarantees. GREAT. Simpletech, you SUCK.
